Trent House's Neighbors
The area surrounding the Trent House, like the house itself, has undergone many changes since 1719, from woodland and farmland with a few mills and workers' home on Assunpink Creek to its current landscape of office buildings, parking lots, and highways. A video compiled by Hunter Research uses early images, maps, and aerial photographs to present a time series of change in the Trent House’s neighborhood.
By the 1830’s the area to the west of the Trent House property along the Delaware River was the site of diverse industrial enterprises powered by an offshoot of the Trenton Water Power. The area on the other three sides of the property was becoming densely populated with working class housing, commercial establishments, and other land uses. Later maps document loss of industry and eventually housing in the Trent House neighborhood.
