About Us
The 1719 William Trent House Museum is owned and maintained by the City of Trenton and managed and operated by the Trent House Association. The House is a designated National Historic Landmark listed in both the State and National Registers of Historic Places and in the Crossroads of the American Revolution National Heritage Area and on the Washington-Rochambeau Revolutionary Route National Historic Trail. The Trent House Museum is also a site on the New Jersey Black Heritage Trail.
The Association
Since the opening of the 1719 William Trent House Museum in 1936, volunteer groups supported the Museum's mission. Incorporated in 1957 and designated as a 501(c)(3) non-profit in 1975, the Trent House Association serves as partner with the City of Trenton in maintaining and operating the Museum. The Association is committed to enhancing public knowledge and understanding of that history. The Association hosts programs and events, provides interpretive aids and exhibits, manages facility and grounds improvement projects, and supports ongoing research on the history of the Trent House, its residents, and its neighborhood. |
The Site
The current site of the Trent House is approximately 2.5 acres and includes the 1719 historic house and a visitor center, formerly a carriage house for the estate. Also on the grounds are a garden area with fruits, herbs, and vegetables associated with the peoples who lived on the site and an heirloom apple orchard representing the orchards that were on Trent's plantation.
